New Programs and Bachelor's Degrees

San Jac has rolled out new programs, including two new bachelor’s degrees, to give students career-ready skills. Added from fall 2023 to fall 2024, these programs fill workforce needs in the Houston and Gulf Coast region:

Pandora Spectrometer and Abacus Plumbing Partnership

Fall 2023
San Jac is leaping into global climate analysis after becoming a NASA-approved site for the Pandora Spectrometer. Housed on the South Campus Science and Allied Health Building roof, this autonomous device allows students to research and help calibrate NASA's satellite data. Pandora uses spectroscopy to study ultraviolet and visible wavelengths of light and measures total column profiles of trace gases in the atmosphere.

October 2023
San Jac is the only Houston-area community college offering a plumbing technology degree. Abacus Plumbing — partnering with National Wholesale Supply — helped outfit this new program with tools, equipment, piping, and other plumbing materials for hands-on lab training. Launched in fall 2023 at the North Campus, the plumbing program began accepting dual credit students in fall 2024.

biotechnology groundbreaking

January 2024
Making major strides in biotechnology, San Jac broke ground on its Center for Biotechnology at the Generation Park Campus and cut the ribbon for the biomanufacturing training program at the South Campus. The College is the exclusive provider of the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training in the southern U.S. The program will meet workforce needs through an Associate of Applied Science degree in biomanufacturing technology and shorter credentials for post-graduates.

Dancing on Steel

May 2024
The
Central Campus steel band and South Campus dance program collaborated on the concert Dancing on Steel — performed at the Central Campus Slocomb Auditorium and Miller Outdoor Theatre in early May. The suite of six steel band pieces and choreographed dances reflected Trinidad and Tobago’s West African origins, ranging from wedding/funeral traditions, the limbo, calypso, and more.

Cybersecurity bachelor's degree accreditation

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has granted full accreditation for the new Bachelor of Applied Technology in information technology with an emphasis in cybersecurity, which launched in fall 2024. This accreditation affirms that students will receive rigorous training for this high-demand field.

San Jac Online Campus

September 2024

San Jac will launch its newest campus, San Jac Online, in fall 2025 with Dr. Ken Tidwell as its chief officer for online learning.
