The new San Jacinto College logistics degree offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional four-year institutions while providing industry-relevant curriculum, hands-on learning experiences, and direct connections to local employers.

“San Jacinto College remains committed to providing innovative, affordable educational opportunities that align with workforce needs," said Dr. Brenda Hellyer, Chancellor of San Jacinto College. "This new bachelor’s degree program was developed based on industry input from a Chancellor’s Advisory Council lead by Ed Emmett. The focus was to develop a degree with advanced logistics skills, leadership capabilities, and expertise in data-driven decision-making.  This degree will not only prepare students for rewarding careers in logistics but will also strengthen the Greater Houston economy by supplying well-qualified professionals to meet industry workforce demands.”

The Chancellor’s Advisory Council on Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management, in conjunction with the College’s Logistics and Supply Chain Management Advisory Committee developed this new program under the guidance of industry representatives from key employers such as Amazon, LyondellBasell, Academy, the Port of Houston, and Union Pacific Railroad.

The program is structured to support working professionals and recent graduates, offering flexible course options and industry-driven training that equips students with the critical skills needed to optimize supply chain operations, manage transportation networks, and implement cutting-edge logistics technologies.

Now that the degree has been approved by the Board of Trustees, the College will notify the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Higher Education Regional Council. The College will also need to develop a curriculum proposal which will be submitted to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Schools for accreditation. The program is slated to begin in Spring 2026.
