San Jacinto College Student

Our Impact: Foundation

Because of the support of our generous donors, students have numerous scholarship opportunities available and are provided with unique services that impact their success. But giving doesn’t only impact the recipient. Once you see the impact you make, you may be surprised at how becoming a donor affects you.

Funding What Matters

We work with students every day and see their greatest needs. This means we are able to prioritize funding in four main areas that directly relate to student achievement.
an Jacinto College Graduate Foundation Impact Promise Scholar
The Promise @ San Jac Program funds tuition and course materials for students after financial aid is exhausted.

Many students at San Jac are the first in their families to attend college. Our “Promise” to them is that they have the financial commitment to continue and achieve their educational goals.
San Jacinto College Scholarship Graduate
Scholarships are awarded annually to help students and their families cover the costs of tuition and course-related books and supplies. In the last 10 years, more than 12,000 students were able to receive an education because of scholarships awarded through the Foundation. That would not have been possible without donors like you.
Marketplace Food Bank
Food insecurity can cause students to miss or drop a class, or not buy a required textbook or supplies. Yet nearly 25% of college students nationwide report the lowest levels of food insecurity.

It disproportionately affects students of color and first-generation college students the most. To combat hunger on our campus, we work with the Houston Food Bank to support the San Jac Marketplaces. Located on each campus, students are able to shop at our markets weekly and get the food they need without worrying about cost or sacrificing their education.
Student Emergency Fund
On top of taking classes, students deal with real-life issues of family, health, hunger, and transportation. Sometimes a single obstacle can make or break a student’s ability to stay in school. That is why we created the Emergency Fund. Through this fund, we have helped more than 800 students each year.

Getting More than a Job

Cynthia Jennings
Jobs that pay more often require college degrees. But there are barriers—the cost of college is high, and that can prevent people from advancing. The Promise program is giving so many kids the opportunity to pursue dreams instead of just getting a job to pay the bills.”
Cynthia Jennings
Promise Scholar, Nursing Student
Outstanding patient care with a personal touch is why Cynthia Jennings has a dream of being a nurse. Born with spina bifida, she has been on the receiving end of that care and now wants to pay it forward. The Promise Scholarship is giving her the opportunity to do just that.
