Types of Complaints

Student issues generally fall into five main categories. Learn more about each one here.

Behavioral concerns include but are not limited to:

  • Harassment
  • Stalking
  • Disruption
  • Misuse of property
  • Failure to comply
  • Retaliation

Behavioral complaints can be made against one or multiple students.

Behavioral complaints can be made against one or multiple students.

Discrimination is not allowed against students or anyone who works for San Jac. Discrimination complaints can be about:

  • Race
  • National origin
  • Citizen status
  • Age
  • Disability
  • Pregnancy
  • Religion
  • Gender
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender expression or identity
  • Marital status
  • Veteran status

Complaints pertaining to sexual misconduct can include but are not limited to:

  • Sexual harassment
  • Sexual violence
  • Dating violence
  • Intimate partner violence
  • Domestic violence
  • Stalking

These behaviors are prohibited against anyone including students, San Jac employees, College contractors, or third parties who are visiting or participating in an event at the College.

General complaints are about a College process, decision, or situation that a student thinks is:

  • Unfair
  • Unequal
  • Hurting their education

Examples include bad customer service in a San Jac office or a complaint about a staff or faculty member. This is not for grade appeals. For information about appealing grades, please check the Student Handbook.

Online students living outside of Texas can file a complaint with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) after they have tried to fix the problem with the college.
