Professional Background
Professor Mougouris, a native of Houston, Texas, has dedicated her career to exploring
the intricacies of human behavior and social dynamics. Growing up in a diverse community
sparked her interest in sociology, leading her to earn a master’s degree from the
University of Houston, where she focused on medical and urban sociology.
Since 1995, she has been teaching at San Jacinto College Central Campus, where she emphasizes critical thinking and open dialogue in her courses, including Introduction to Sociology, Minority Studies, Criminology, and Marriage and Family. Her inclusive approach challenges students to question societal norms and reassess their assumptions.
Recognition and Influence
In 2021, Professor Mougouris was selected as one of 20 faculty members nationwide
for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Silberman Seminar on 'Teaching Mass
Atrocity.' This experience significantly influenced her teaching on historical injustices
and their lasting societal impacts.
Additionally, she has contributed to shaping educational policies as a member of the Sociology Subcommittee for the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board, focusing on promoting equity and access in higher education throughout Texas.
