Professor Angie Sprowl has been a dedicated professional in higher education since 1996, with a diverse career spanning roles such as academic advisor, recruiter, program coordinator, and adjunct professor. In 2012, she transitioned to a full-time position as a Professor of Sociology at San Jacinto College South, where she continues to make significant contributions to the academic community. Professor Sprowl received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology and Women’s Studies from Texas State University and her Master of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She is proficient in teaching both face-to-face and online, with an expertise in a wide range of courses including Introduction to Sociology, Social Psychology, Marriage and Family, Human Sexuality, and Psychology.
Professor Sprowl plays a vital role in guiding high school students through dual credit courses, helping them earn college credit while still in high school. Her teaching style is inclusive, providing students with a sense of belonging, a sense of community, and acceptance of their individuality. She believes in eliminating barriers by understanding students’ strengths and challenges. Her passion for teaching and ability to connect with students, regardless of various learning styles, have made her classes engaging and impactful.
In recognition of her solid commitment to student success, Professor Sprowl has been acknowledged by the Office of Student Development for her collaborative efforts and active support of their initiatives and events. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom, as she has taken on roles such as performing duties to assist the evening dean, serving as admissions and academic advisor, supplemental instructor, and mentoring adjunct faculty. In addition, Professor Sprowl participates annually as an evaluator in the general education outcomes initiative.
