South Campus students compete in inaugural Calculus Bowl
The South Campus Math Department hosted a series of academic events in late April and early May, culminating in the inaugural Calculus Bowl on May 1.
Seventeen students enrolled in calculus I, II, III and differential equations competed in the Calculus Bowl, working in groups of four to answer questions on limits, derivatives and integrals. Precalculus students also attended as spectators.
Calculus professors Kacie Cooper, Dhouha Kelibi and Christopher Stickney served as judges for the event. Questions were written by the master of ceremonies to ensure impartiality.
The winning team included Syed Hammad Ali Rizvi, Habiba Mansour, Jesse Mata and Abdel Rahman Rabata.
The Calculus Bowl capped a week of final exam review events held April 27–30 for students in freshman math and precalculus courses. Review sessions included math-themed Bingo games covering algebra, trigonometry, probability and financial math. Professors David Watson and Rachael Kurien also organized a statistics Jeopardy event for students in an introductory statistics course.
