Central Campus Welcome Center to be named in honor of longtime Board member
PASADENA, Texas – During its Nov. 2 meeting, the San Jacinto College Board of Trustees approved a resolution to name former Board Member Keith Sinor a trustee emeritus following his October retirement from the Board.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am proud to recognize Keith Sinor for his outstanding service and lasting contributions to San Jacinto College, and we were honored to name him an Emeritus Trustee,” said Dan Mims, San Jacinto College Board of Trustees Chair. “Keith devoted more than 15 years to advancing this institution and supporting the success of our students, faculty, and staff, so this is a fitting tribute to his dedication, leadership, and enduring commitment to San Jacinto College.”
In addition to the Emeritus Trustee title, the Board also approved to re-name the Central Campus Welcome Center as the Keith and Rae Sinor Welcome Center. A formal unveiling and dedication ceremony will take place at a later date and time.
Sinor was a champion for not only San Jacinto College students and employees, the College’s growth as well. His support of the 2015 bond program helped secure voter approval for a $425 million package that included the LyondellBasell Center for Petrochemical, Energy, & Technology; new cosmetology and culinary facilities; the Central Campus welcome center; and additional classroom facilities across the College. In addition the bond package funded renovations to nine buildings, most of which were more than 30 years old, and security and safety upgrades throughout the district. His tenure also included the development and opening of the College’s Maritime and Generation Park campuses.
Beyond expanding the College’s facilities, Sinor was committed to removing barriers and creating opportunities for students. He championed policies to streamline admissions and transfer processes and was a longtime supporter of the San Jacinto College Foundation. In addition to supporting scholarships for North Campus students pursuing industrial technology, Sinor and his wife, Rae, were founding supporters of the Promise @ San Jac Scholarship and chaired and sponsored the Foundation’s biennial gala benefiting the Promise endowment scholarship.
Sinor served as chair of the College Finance Committee and was an active member of the San Jacinto College Foundation Board of Directors.
A Pasadena native, Sinor is a former San Jacinto College student who attended Texas A&M University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance, as well as an MBA. As a certified public accountant, Sinor has worked for Arthur Andersen and Sinor Engine Company, Inc., where he was co-owner and chief financial officer.
