We Are Ravens!

Poe the Raven was born on April 21 and grew up in the mountains of West Texas.

As he grew up, he enjoyed exploring the rugged landscape around him. But inside, he always wanted to take flight — to experience a new culture that embraced many different birds, histories, and stories. After considering many new landing places, he found the perfect spot — Houston.

While flying over the east side, he spied a billboard featuring San Jacinto College. Maybe this was the place to find his purpose and reach his full potential.

Now at San Jac, Poe studies hard, but he’s still not sure which career path to choose (he has so many interests, after all). Between classes, he enjoys campus life, especially meeting new people at events.

Learn More About Poe

"Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,/ In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore;/ Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;/ But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door..."
- Edgar Allan Poe

Personality

While playful and mischievous, Poe is also smart and serious about things he cares about, like his family, friends, and future.

Dream/Fear

Poe wants to set an example for his younger brothers and sisters. He’s the first to leave the nest. His family is very much about tradition. Poe values that, but he also wants to be independent too — like a true Texan. His dream is to make an impact, and his biggest fear is missing out on opportunities and disappointing his family.

Strength/Weakness

Poe is a great problem solver, but his curiosity can distract him.

Interests

Poe loves playing strategic and puzzle-based video games, line dancing (he’s not the most coordinated, though), and reading/writing macabre poetry.

Family

Poe’s parents have been a pair for most of their lives. His parents and siblings still live in west Texas. They wish he would stay closer but know he needs to spread his wings. Poe misses his loving family, but he’s excited to venture out on his own.
San Jac cemented the realization of how incredible a two-year college can be on one's educational journey to higher academics.
